Review of Upside Down (2012) by Lane Z — 25 Aug 2013
An extremely engaging and interesting premise that leaves you wondering which way is up. Too bad the what could have been a very good movie is wasted on an incomplete love story that's run into the ground.
Jim Sturgess has never been an above average actor in my opinion, and his delivery just seems off the entire time. He's our main narrator, but I almost wish they'd left that whole part out. Kirsten Dunst to me is up and down. Usually an above average actress stuck in below average movies.
The movie is PG-13, but the whole film feels G. At the end of the film, the two have a baby but never have intercourse the entire time! How does that happen? Huge plot holes, not compelling and stagnant emotion scenes, Upside Down falls hard outside of it's wonderful premise and cool visuals.
