Review of Upside Down (2012) by Alex R — 09 Sep 2013
Upside Down is a fairly unique Sci Fi film. The film is a romance movie, but I felt it wasn't overly cheesy and it kept me involved due to its plot. The film concerns two worlds, one living on top of each other, and two people living in either on the worlds, and they fall in love, but they are forbidden in seeing each other because of strict rules from each of the worlds.
Although it relies on a typical romantic film formula, it adds so much more to the film with its visuals and Sci Fi elements, which is refreshing to see. I thought that this was an underrated film and though it has its flaws, the creativity and originality of the film's visuals along with a familiar story makes this one worth seeing.
The film should been much better as well, and it did have the potential of being a terrific Sci Fi movie, but at times it lacks in some areas. I was surprised by how good the film was, and how much I enjoyed it.
The cast did a good job in their performances and made it an entertaining movie that is exciting from start to finish. Like I said, the film should have been better, but for what it is, it's a well executed picture that blends two genres effectively well and manages to make something old into something new.
Upside Down is worth seeing if you enjoy these types' films. The cast are great, and the story is good, and the creativity is what makes this a worthwhile picture that is a surprise. The film is underrated, and it doesn't deserve all the negativity it has received.
Upside Down manages to overcome its shortcoming with an interesting and original storyline and effective direction and performances. I'm not usually one to enjoy Romances, but this one was good, much better than most in the genre.
