Review of Upside Down (2012) by Iris T — 29 Oct 2013
Visually stunning. Timothy Spall welcomes a character we're not used to seeing from him--or at least, that I'm not used to seeing. I like that. The score was pretty cool, especially the synth segments.
This movie has its magic but is not magical enough to live up to its interesting premise that begs you to suspend disbelief for its illogical universe. The script takes us to this interesting world and situation that is not supported from its sappiness and from laughably immature character dynamics.
It felt like it needed to ferment quite a bit longer to become more solid. As it is, the script tries to charm you, when really it just QUESTIONS YOUR INTELLIGENCE, especially at about the 85 min. mark, where you want to scream at it to "STOP," but it just keeps digging its own grave until its pathetically sappy end.
