Review of Upgrade (2018) by Jerry S — 01 Jun 2018
Upgrade is a very entertaining film. The low budget production company, Blumhouse Films, continues here to produce interesting R-rated stories, It's the near future, and Grey Trace and his wife Asha are driving home when their car's computer gets hacked and crashed. A group of mechanically enhanced men kill Asha and sever Grace's spine, leaving him a paraplegic. Months later Grey is secretly offered an experimental implant that lets him walk again and track down his wife's murderers. It turns out that the implant has artificial intelligence and can talk to Grey, without anyone else being able to hear it.
Some of the film's twists can be surprising and the action shot with some interesting effects. Some of the fight scenes are filmed brutally, but quite visceral. It certainly held my interest and never left me bored. It's well worth a home viewing.
