Review of Upgrade (2018) by Arturo P — 01 Jun 2018
A smaller film for its budget but very entertaining.
Logan Marshall-Green is a simple man with a wife and loves working on mechanics in a not-too-distant future of cybernetic technology.
Blumhouse Productions manages to make a sort of 'robocop' story with blood but a sense of fun.
After his wife is killed by gang members he's paralyzed from the waist down but a special computer chip called STEM can make him walk again.
It also enhances his fighting skills to get back at the ones responsible even to talking to him in his head.
The problem for him is that he needs to keep his miracle cure a secret or else they'll end up removing the chip making him disabled again.
He's truly not man anymore or machine, he's more than that.
This movie is quick, gory but also lots of fun.
Not to mention that the opening is much different from the typical element we see in a lot of movies.
Green sells this movie and while it may seem like a typical revenge story Blumhouse manages to make it work in a very solid way.
Another one of 2018's best!
