Review of Up in the Air (2009) by Prashant W — 11 May 2013
At first I didn't care about this movie, but I went to see it for the hell of it. I've seen Jason Reitman's last movie "Juno" and thought it was good, as for this movie UP IN THE AIR, I thought this was a very entertaining movie about a corporate expert (George Clooney) who travels from one city to another, get frequent flier miles, and going to companies to fire people from their jobs.
I can kinda relate to this movie because I've worked for companies who let me go but not the kind of way that it happens in this film. I thought Clooney was good. I also thought both Vera Farmiga (The Deaprted), as a fellow work traveler, and Anna Kendrick (Twilight), as Clooney's arrogant, overacheiving replacement, were both very good.
Reitman picked a lot of familar faces from Jason Bateman (Juno), Danny McBride (Tropic Thunder), J.K. Simmons (Spiderman), Sam Elliott (Ghost Rider), Melanie Lynskey (Heavenly Creatures), Amy Morton (Rookie of the Year), and Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover) for their roles.
I loved how they shot Clooney from packing his suitcase in his apartment to arriving at the airport. Their were some funny moments in the film, like Kendrick's character having a personal meltdown in front of Clooney in while in Miami.
I thought this movie was an entertaining mix of comedy and drama with a damn good cast of actors.
