Review of Up in the Air (2009) by Thomas P — 14 Nov 2013
You must experience this film.
George Clooney smoothly compels and quietly stuns here.
He's a corporate "hatchet man" who fires ppl for a living - as gently and cleanly as possible, and w a conscience.
His company tries to mess with his formula tho.
And then a new, much younger co-worker almost mercilessly rakes him over the coals about everything from his business to his personal life. I I.
Oh, Anna Kendrick - perfect tone, heart felt and exquisite, giving Clooney a run for his money.
You can't help but be intrigued that the single, middle-aged character Clooney plays is informing you about the single, middle-aged Clooney himself.
And then watch the subtly stunning Vera Formiga take his and your breath away.
Fascinating - completely.
At the end of the movie are interviews of real ppl giving insights about their life after being fired. Amazing.
I first watched this at a friend's house - we intended it to be background noise as we caught up on our last few years apart.
We never made it past 20 mins before being drawn into this film.
Now, I've seen it several times since, and it never disappoints.
Let this movie make you a better person.
Or at least more thotful..
