Review of Up Close & Personal (1996) by Matej D — 25 Jan 2009
Have you ever seen Pretty Woman? Ok, it's something like that, though it doesn't end like a fairy tale and it has some subtle hints that really pull off. But let's start with a romantic theme: it's done nice, Redford and Pfeiffer make a good couple with a lot of chemistry and there are some lines that work really good. But... what makes this movie worth watching is that it shows being a news reporter is not as easy as it seems and that there is always risk involved if you want to be a good reporter and tell a superb story that will mean something and move people all around the globe.
And a perfect line from the movie to all our crazy reporters that have throughout the last couple of months (maybe years) reduced news only to gossip:"What we in the news business can never forget is that we are only as good as the stories we tell.".
