The intro was very lovely, heartwarming, moving and emotional. It was a very nice set-up for the film. However, its not my favourite Disney/Pixar film. It made me laugh at times. But for the most part, I found the bits with the dogs highly stupid. It really took detracted from the film I thought.
That being said, I really loved all the animation. And I liked the characters for the most part. I was also really touched by the scene where Carl looks through Ellie's adventure book and finds out they she included pictures of their married life as her "adventure". It was sweet.
