Review of Up (1984) by David M — 04 Jan 2015
Pixar returns to form in an animated (it's Pixar, D'uh!) comedy, in which retired balloon salesman Carl fulfills a lifelong dream to travel to Paradise Falls, after a poignant intro showing the life he had with his now-deceased wife.
Of course, being Pixar, he doesn't do it the standard way of going on a plane, but by tying thousands of helium-filled balloons to his house and floating away. Unexpectedly along for the ride is eight-year-old Wilderness Explorer Russell, with the film then going on to show the growing relationship between Carl and Russell, and bringing in the talking dog Dug as the comic relief - squirrel! - as well as Kevin the (female) bird, and Christopher Plummer's explorer Charles Muntz providing the requisite villain of the piece.
Well worth a watch.
