Review of Until the Light Takes Us (2008) by Adam G — 25 Aug 2011
There's a good documentary to be made about the black metal scene, and this one kind of is. But it's sloppy, and too inwardly focused too much of the time. Still, there's some arresting scenes to be found here: Fenriz (of Darkthrone) having to deal with the mundane aspects of black metal's emergence as a trend, Varg Vikernes (of Burzum) calmly explaining the murder that he's serving time for, and a disturbingly gruesome sequence in which Frost carves himself up with a knife) as part of an art installation.
Still, the film's missing something - more fire, perhaps?
