Review of Unthinkable (2007) by Brady S — 23 Aug 2010
I Netflixed this movie because I saw a trailer on another DVD. Samuel L. Jackson? Carrie-Anne Moss? Michael Sheen? It's about terrorists and it went direct-to-video? I have to see this! Jackson plays a secret U.
S. interrogator charged with getting information out of Sheen, a terrorist who has planted three nuclear bombs somewhere in the United States. Moss is the FBI agent who holds onto Jackson's leash. Basically, this movie boils down to a long episode of 24 with just the torture.
There isn't a whole lot to this movie. The actors all give adequate performances and the movie is serviceable (if you can handle fingers getting cut off with hatchets - ouch). But it's the final half hour where the movie picks up, and then it gets interesting.
The ending will probably shock at first glance, but it kinda falls apart upon closer examination. I'd definitely give Unthinkable a rental, but I doubt I would recommend picking it up. It's not unique enough (or good enough) to warrant a purchase.
