Review of Unthinkable (2007) by Shane H — 21 Feb 2011
Unthinkable is rather thinkable actually, undeniably good - no.
Surely it is 'unthinkable' to cast Brit actor Michael Sheen (Frost Nixon and Tony Blair in The Queen) in an American film, as an American? Obviously not, and this for me is what let's this good idea of a film down. Even Samuel L Jackson can't save it, as Mr Nasty Interrogator.
The idea is modern, relevant and interesting. An ex-army (Black Ops no less) man turns to Muslim extremity faith and wants revenge. He plants 3 nuclear bombs and hands himself in waiting for them to explode. Enter the interrogators to torture him into submission - but can they do it in time? Maybe you think this is similar to other older films and you would be right but it does have a new, fresh feel to it and it does aim at 'what would you do' to protect your country theme.
The acting is quite good and the plot is entertaining enough, but there are few flaws that take away some of the tension and power of another big 'blockbuster' wannabe. Good but not that good, some will love it, others not.
