Review of Unthinkable (2007) by Jonathan G — 10 Apr 2011
In "Unthinkable" Samuel L Jackson plays an unofficially endorsed sadist who leaves you guessing if he is inherently good for the wrong reasons or acting evil for the right reasons. As an 'expert interrogator' the character simply known as 'H' becomes progressively uninhibited with his subject, Yousuf (Michael Sheen), which tests FBI Counter-terrorism expert Special Agent Helen Brody (Carrie-Anne Moss) into morally inventorying what limits define acceptable interrogation parameters in extreme circumstances.
In just over 97 minutes, this R-rated film manages to cover about 15 minutes of a '24' episode in its plot depth, shock, and moral value. A day late and a dollar short, this film is equivalent to showing a loaded gun at the beginning of a story without anyone ever pulling the trigger before it ends which is truly unthinkable.
