It's no secret that I admire Tony Scott as a filmmaker.... but honestly, this movie is very "phoned" in - a strictly "for hire" gig. He pulled out the Tony Scott guns, but really in this instance it all smelled very sour.
I didn't know or really care for any of the characters. Yes, I love Denzel and like Chris Pine, but there's just too much "stuff" in the way.. IE - train Jargon etc etc.. to really lock in on who these guys are.
The biggest distraction in the film is that it basically unfolds like a TV News Story, but one that would NEVER be reported in reality. Besides the stink of the constant news reports and news Choppers flying around is the ridiculous over-use of the "reaction" shot.
It looked like people watching "The Running Man" game show from the Schwarzenegger show. The shot of Denzel's characters daughters saying aloud "Go, Go!!" while they watched the action from their jobs at Hooters was simply ridiculous/moronic beyond belief.
I felt like I was watching a Roland Emmerich film with all the cheering and crowds watching TV at the end. I hate that kind of giving the throngs watching on TV the focal point. In the end I would just file this damn thing under the title of "annoying".
The most I've disliked a Tony Scott film in many years.
