Review of Unstoppable (2010) by Travis S — 01 Jan 2013
(Three out of Four Stars).
Tony Scott, whether it's a good film or a bad film, you gotta love this man's style. it's easily comparable to the Michael Bay style of filmmaking, but remember Scott was on the scene first before Bay. Unstoppable is a thrilling story of a 1/2 a mile freight train carry toxic chemicals that gets away from it's engineer and goes full speed at 70mph into what will result into certain disaster. The only people who can stop this speeding missile is Denzel Washington and Chris Pine, by attempting to tow the train in the opposite direction, almost like the scene in Jaws where the sharks drags the Orca fishing boat once he's tied to it. This and many other scenes result in an old school action thrill ride. Outside of action, the film as well established characters and background stories with it's characters, Scott isn't afraid to take the time out of his action scenes to develop these characters a little more and a little more. The is inspired by true events, and to my surprise the way the train becomes a runaway train is very accurate to what happened. The real train did speed away at 50mph for over 60 miles, and the way the situation was resolved was somewhat similar to the film. Overall, it was good to see Tony Scott back in action.
