Review of Unsane (2018) by Jluis_001 — 29 May 2018
This film is probably one of the biggest disappointments I've had this year. I really had huge expectations but Unsane ended up being an empty experience.
This is a film evidently inspired by class B films but unable to achieve an identity.
The mystery and suspense are too simplistic. The film spends 30 minutes before it really starts to have a little more sense and the truth is that if the purpose of that is for you to feel as lost as the main character, well I can say that Soderbergh was successful in it, but creating suspense, he failed miserably.
The most solid points of the film are Claire Foy's performance and the minimalist style the director used, being filmed with an iPhone undoubtedly the options were few but I think it helped a lot to portray that feeling and style of claustrophobia in almost all the shots and in all the close-ups.
The truth is that I expected much more and frankly I ended up bored and totally dissatisfied.
