Review of Unsane (2018) by Anita W — 18 Aug 2018
I thought the movie was very interesting. Unfortunately I experienced being in a psychiatric hospital 3 years ago and it was very frightening. I ended up their for insomnia causing suiicidal ideation but was released almost 30 days later once my insurance ran out. It was a hell hole with a lot less freedom then this movie portrayed and if you did not conform with taking the meds look out.
As far as that nurse being able to bring patients to the basement without being caught, that is pretty unrealistic. survelliance cameras are everywhere and these places are secured like prisons. Cell phones would never be allowed.
Overall it was a pretty good story and it is true that people are locked up unnecessarily for the insurance money. Psychiatrists in those places are quick to llabel patients for this purpose. I have PTSD now as a result of my abusive stay at a hosoital where I was treated like a prisoner when prior to that I was a professional business person. The mental health care system in the United States is poorly run and hurts rather than helps people.
