Review of Unleashed (2005) by Matthew R — 25 Jun 2008
I love, love, love this movie. It has everything a girl could want in a movie - the most brutal fighting I've ever seen, a heartwarming streak, and Jet Li.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not touting Li's acting - it still needs some work. But his turn as a beaten-down man with the mindset of a 10 year old is honest and true. His fighting more than makes up for any other faults.
The story is told with pacing reminiscent of Kill Bill 2, never allowing you to mull over anything more than a second before wrenching you into another scene. The familial warmth is cheesy at times, but I think just what everyone wants for Danny.
The fight scenes are spectucular, and like I mentioned above, brutal. The choreographer is the same as in the Matrix and Kill Bill movies, and he doesn't disappoint.
Bob Hoskins makes a welcome comeback. And Morgan Freeman is Morgan Freeman.
