Review of Universal Soldier: Regeneration (2010) by Clyde L — 02 Feb 2010
This is a solid movie with realistic action and authentic interactions between the characters. I rented this thinking I would stop watching by the 15 minute mark. To my surprise, this is as good as Van Dam's most recent movies: mature adult dialog, good acting, realistic mixed martial arts action, excellent score, great location.
The director obviously went to great pains to add realism to the movie. There is no OVER-acting, and the characters in the movie (the Chechen Islamic extremist leader, the rogue scientist, the head of the US program, etc.
) are NOT cartoonish caricatures, but seem like real people. If it had more human drama, I would have given it 5 stars instead of 4. I look forward to seeing what this director does next.
