The result is a very different kind of Universal Soldier movie, but one that at least has the balls to try something new. It may not always be successful, but in an age when filmmakers seem happy to churn out the same movie over-and-over again, credit should go to Hyams for mixing up the tried-and-tested formula.

And with the film's finale somewhat open-ended, here's hoping he gets the opportunity to further explore the Unisol universe. An entertaining Universal Soldier movie that dares to try something different.
