Review of Universal Soldier (1992) by Ross M — 15 Aug 2009
Starring the two titans of B level action flicks, this movie was bound to be appealing to some, and sadly remains one of the best films in both Dolph Lungren's, and Jean-Claude Van Damme's careers. With the basic story of two vietnam veterans who kill each other being brought back to life as cybernetic soldiers years later, you can tell that this is going to be a winner off the bat.
The story is simple, the acting from Dolph and Van Damme is laughable at best, and the other characters only serve as targets to be killed. there can be some positive said for the film, though. The explosions are all nicely done throughout, and there remains a good sense of humor throughout the entire thing that helps to break up the monotony of the action sequences.
I acknowledge that it's dumb, I also acknowledge the fact that it is not a good movie, I knew that when I bought it, but if anything, I threw in an extra star for Dolph Lundgren, he's terrible as an actor, but in that "so bad it's good" way. Watch it or not, you've been warned.
