Review of United 93 (2006) by Juneen A — 11 Dec 2009
Releasing a film about 9/11 four and half years after the event seems like it could be become a bit exploitative, but remarkably this film is not. It also avoids adding backstories to the passengers or staging dramatic moments into the events.
All you know of the passangers or the ground control people is no more detailed than if you were with them for the first time on that day. Even the terrorists, seem like nothing more than a couple average men, there is no attempt to make them overtly "evil". And that is why the film works so well.
And on top of this, I dont think any other film will ever capture the feeling of unreality and disbielif that so many people felt that day. And to think this was done by a british filmmaker.
It is the perfect cinematic depiction of a true event.
