Review of United 93 (2006) by J. Y — 28 Mar 2011
Greengrass takes pains to keep events believable and relatively unrhetorical, rejecting entertainment for the sake of sober reflection, though one has to ask how edifying this is apart from its reduction of the standard myths. (One myth it perpetuates is that the passengers succeeded in storming the cockpit before the plane crashed.) Even the undeniable heroism of the passengers on United 93 doesn't edify as it should. This limitation in source material has had a peculiar effect on the script. Never is there a moment of repulsive sentimentality or exploitation. United 93, as grueling as it was to sit through, left me feeling curiously unmoved and even slightly resentful.
VERDICT: "Some Ole' Bulls**t" - Second lowest rating (Negative reaction). These films are truly terrible films. They are not the worst things ever made, but they are definitely awful and should not be seen by anyone.
