Review of Unfriended: Dark Web (2018) by Anthony K — 25 Oct 2018
"Lol" - this is the first word that comes to mind when thinking of how exactly to rate Unfriended Dark Web. I was a fan of the first one, honestly; sure, it was ridiculous, but the gimmick worked, and seriously masked the limited budget that these Blumhouse films tend to operate on.
Dark Web is a pretty similar movie, though this time none of the characters are as inherently unlikable (with the exception of stoner Alex Jones type). And yes, the level of 'hacking' that these dark webbers are able to accomplish is absolutely ridiculous, to the point of breaking suspension of disbelief.
Still, it is a lot of fun; the kills are gross, the acting is cheesy - it's an all around entertaining story if you can look past the emotional whiplash the first 30 minutes expects to give you (as though we care about any of these characters) and enjoy the ride.
