Review of Unfriended: Dark Web (2018) by Makoto P — 18 Jul 2018
The amount of disbelief you have to suspend for this movie is too costly. Although a lot of the hacking is not impossible, the way it is utilized seemed cheap as if it were simply magic. The reason I would not completely discredit this film is because of the adequate job done by its actors conveying their emotions in such a limited space to work with on a computer screen.
The fear, panic, and dread that our protagonist is consumed by is especially chilling. Please stop acting like using computers is magic and take time to write a more compelling narrative. It just feels like a scapegoat to further the story with "oh no the hacking!" It had a decent premise involving the seedy underbelly of the dark web and believable actors, but was made rotten by the terrible writing.
