Review of Unfriended (2014) by Rafael B — 03 Sep 2017
A fairly straightforward teen horror film. It uses it's gimmick of being filmed on a laptop fairly smartly and realistically (using Skype sounds, FB messages, ITunes, and Youtube). The actors and actresses all do fairly decent jobs as well, and I dug the way they dealt with using music in the film (very clever).
There aren't really any surprises here, the character's aren't all that likable (most are just downright assholes, bullies, and liars. Yeah, it's hard to care about any of them), and I didn't find it to be all that scary .
Part of the fun is watching as the truth is revealed and friends turn on each other. Also, don't expect elaborate deaths as most occur as Skype glitches out. Overall, Unfriended treats it's characters realistically (Yes, most high school teens can be real pieces of shit at times) and it's got a great message about cyber-bullying (and it feels good to see the bullies get their comeuppance).
