Review of Unfriended (2014) by Jay F — 16 Aug 2015
Depending on how you take this review- you may believe it contains spoilers- you've been warned. This movie was one I was really anticipating. It could not have been more disappointing. Much like everyone else, I think the found-footage vantage point has been overdone by too many film makers- but this- this one looked different.
We're all so wound up in our social activities online, this seemed like a relevant [read: fresh] take on the found-footage genre. Not only was it idiotic, it was incredibly boring. I'm a big fan of the old school horror movies that didn't quite show you everything, and allowed you to use your your imagination.
This created a feeling for the viewer that they had a vested interest in the movie. The deaths in this movie were pathetic. Jump scenes that didn't make sense, [spoiler: blender] deaths you missed entirely [spoiler: bottle of bleach]- but I digress.
If you're looking for a crappy teenage horror movie, this is for you- but for most horror fans- do yourself a favor and skip this one. You're not missing anything.
