Review of Unfriended (2014) by Charlie C — 23 Oct 2015
I did a "you cringe you drink" challenge for this movie and ended up reasonably drunk, also laughed at way too many scenes, that is if you're supposed to laugh at any scenes in an horror movie at all, anyway. Also the main character's desktop is really cluttered, I can't look at it without having an aneurysm.
In all seriousness though, any kind of an horror film based on digial technology is doomed to fail, because there isn't really any "unknown" to experience with it. No lens flare that looks like a ghost, no murderer videotape - just some weird spaghetti code ridden with glitches, at best. A greyed out "unfriend" button ain't scary. "Well this glitch just typed" definitely isn't a smooth line, and frankly, it sounds really hilarious. Actually the whole movie is a laugh/cringefest if you're somewhat tech savy - and I hope it's at least a bit scary if you're just an average user, because otherwise this movie is aimed at on one, ever.
And yes, I seriously did the cringe-drink challenge. Never do it unless there's a friend to watch over you; otherwise you might find yourself at a hospital after watching the purgealltrojans.exe scene.
