Review of Unforgiven (1992) by Senor C — 30 Jan 2011
Eastwood's best western since Outlaw Josey Whales & definitely deserved its Oscar win because its he's most character driven. Actually Unforgiven cleaned up @ Oscar time w/ best picture, best director & a well deserved win by Gene Hackman.
Hackman is just amazing but its rare that the screen legend doesn't impress. Eastwood is a man who has put his killing ways behind him as a promise to his dead wife but takes the guns up again to come to collect a bounty for a whore that had been cut up.
By 1992 the western was dead & to have Clint back in the saddle one more time was a treat coming up w/ an excellent project that he had total control of to create some old magic. A a real gem for fans of his oaters even though I wouldn't put it on the same level as his Dollar Trilogy.
