Review of Unforgiven (1992) by Robert R — 23 Dec 2012
Wanted to watch a good western or war movie so decided on Unforgiven. Hadn't seen it in 15 years. Still surprised it won the Oscar in 1992 but it was better than I remembered. In most movies, the hero is essentially good with a few bad traits they're trying to overcome.
Unforgiven was different as in the end you realize Clint Eastwood, who you've been cheering for the whole time, is a ruthless person, a killer who doesn't mind doing it. And he'll never change.
This made for a lot of unexpected scenes, like when he shotguns the bartender or finishes off Hackman. A cool twist on an old formula.
