Review of Unforgiven (1992) by Paul J — 09 Dec 2013
What you get is a deconstruction of the western myth using intelligently written characters. Writer, David Webb Peoples (Blade Runner) approaches the genre seriously and found his inspiration in Taxi Driver.
Unforgiven is a statement on violence against women, gun worship, masculinity of men and racial discrimination. Rarely, do westerns get this layered and complex. Eastwood pulls it all together and makes a masterpiece that's his swan song to the west.
It remains my all-time favorite western.
