Review of Unforgiven (1992) by Ethan P — 13 Dec 2015
Unforgiven is as refreshing a film as I've ever seen. It's a western with the same powerful characters and ancient set pieces you'd expect, but it's totally different in every other regard.
It was amazing to see a film with characters that don't take themselves to seriously and the story is more complicated than a showdown in the desert. They are real, down to earth people. Clint Eastwood's character is so old he can barely shoot or ride his horse and Morgan Freeman doesn't have the heart to kill anymore.
It was nice to see characters that were intriguing, but weren't untouchable. It was nice to have their legends and stories picked apart and to hear the less impressive, sometimes embarrassing truths be shared.
It was awesome to see that not everyone was fearless and most of the people Clint Eastwood challenges coward away. It makes statements on the fact that men act like they are heartless and unbreakable, but they fear violence and most hide away from it.
