Review of Unfinished Business (2015) by Stacey Paul B — 07 Jun 2015
Holy mother of god...I have no idea how this script was ever greenlit with some of the worst attempts at jokes I've ever seen and not one single, funny moment in the entire film. This is billed as a raunchy road trip-type movie, yet it spends about 1/3 of the time flipping the tone to have sentimental scenes with Vince Vaughn trying to be a better father to his troubled teens and it couldn't have been made more obvious that you're supposed to "feel something" when the music swells.
Vince Vaughn, Tom Wilkinson, and Dave Franco barely have any chemistry together and they never once spell out what their business is, how it became remotely successful in just one year, and every scene of them talking about how great their numbers are feel trite without proper context.
I don't know what type of character Dave Franco was supposed to be playing here, he's an intellectually disabled young adult who can barely string a sentence together, yet he's the third partner in the business and apparently always does flawless work and they reward him constantly.
..I don't know. Honestly, watching his line delivery made me depressed as it's just not possible for a character to be that thick. This movie is a straight-up disaster that never once made me laugh, chuckle, grin and the only redeeming quality is seeing Nick Frost who's impossible not to love and one clever idea involving a museum (though the logistics of that scenario are just as fucked as the rest of the movie).
Do not waste your time on this crap as they clearly put no effort into it, so why should you?
