Review of Unfaithful (2009) by Jordan T — 29 May 2008
First off, I loved gere. he seemed to be a tertiary character throughout most of the film, but his subtleties in performance and what not were awesome and really made the film for me. I loved his dilemma and how he pulled you in and made you feel sorry for him.
in the beginning you see a bored wife who is looking for fun and dropping from the mundane usual everyday, and actually agree with her decision. it's all through her eyes: daring, adventurous, fun, spontaneous, harmless almost (almost I said) but after looking at it through the eyes of gere's character it brings you back to what she is doing: cheating.
it is such a great drama filled with melancholy. no one ends up right by the end...whether it be emotionally, psychologically (there is a difference in emotion and psyche I think), or even physically.
even if they don't show what happens to the son, no doubt the whole thing will weigh heavily on his still developing maturity, wisdom, and life in general. by the end (trying not to give anything away) you fully believe in, and most likely not appreciate the phrase "every action in turn produces an equal and opposite reaction" translated: every action has its consequence, no one escapes karma.
