Review of Unfaithful (2009) by Michael R — 17 Aug 2011
I thought it was really funny, especially when she starts bitchslapping the other woman in the bookstore because the french guy is unfaithful, but she is cheating too. It's about some messed up people who think nothing of trying to feel more alive by inflicting emotional pain on others, and it leads to a miasma of unsolvable feelings and conflicts, and the dir.
Lyne is good at showing how ppl make this horrific logjam of bad decisions. Even when the gerbil dude kills the adulterer, he is suffering unbearable agony and neither of them tries to defuse it, instead they keep up an alpha male match that leads to inevitable outcomes.
Jealousy and envy lead to hate and destroy the soul. The movie acknowledges such pain has an undeniable power so it is very human. At the end the couple are united in their guilt and stare at a crossroads of denial.
Many people exist this way, but karma makes them pay, emotional vampires or not.
