Review of Unfaithful (2002) by Curt C — 01 Aug 2008
Richard Gere is essentially "the everyday husband", and Diana Lane begins an affair due to ... well, no good reason is really given. Which is perfectly fine really, and the first half of the film involves Lane having the affair, and Gere becoming suspicious. Simply a realistic portrayal of the affair leading up to the moment where Gere finally meets the man she is having an affair with.
I won't spoil what happens at that point, but the film does take an interesting twist. More importantly, I was impressed that the film continues to focus on the characters themselves, and how they react to the situation they have found themselves in, instead of turning it in a typical Hollywood direction. Lane and Gere are both effective.
In the end, we end up with an enjoyable two hour film, nothing more and nothing less.
