Review of Undisputed III: Redemption (2010) by Patrick E — 30 May 2010

The first two Undisputed films were pure entertainment and really were two of the best fighting/martial arts films that have been made so it was a huge surprise when this third entry titled Undisputed 3: Redemption managed to be even better than the original two. The first two films featured the most realistic fighting scenes ever committed to film and the third is no different but whereas the first two were brilliant entertainment they were light on the story front. Redemption manages to retain all of what made the first two so good but also creates a genuinely interesting plot full of strong characterisation and good acting from all of the leads.

Redemption picks up from the end of the second film but focuses entirely on the character of Boyka, the Russian fighter played so well by English actor Scott Adkins. Stuck in a hell of a prison, Boyka learns of a new international prison fighting tournament where the winner will win his freedom. He must overcome a busted knee, labour camps, corruption, fight-rigging and whole other host of challenges in order to win his freedom. Yes a film like this is judged on its fighting scenes which are simply breathtaking but the story is genuinely engaging with Boyka being such an interesting character. The supporting cast of characters are all excellent as is the direction from Isaac Florentine. He put some real effort into characterisation making us really feel for Boykaâ??s plight and thus makes you become much more involved in the fight scenes.

Undisputed 3 is an uplifting film with a nice story, some really interesting characters and breathtakingly brutal fight scenes which all adds of up to a wonderfully entertaining film. Fans of old school films such as Kickboxer, The Karate Kid, Bloodsport and Best of the Best will really love this.
