Review of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009) by Nic B — 16 Jun 2012
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this one. The cast (including the excellent Bill Nighy and Michael Sheen) do good work regardless of some hokey dialogue they have to work with. Likewise, helmer Patrick Tatopoulos handles some of the action sequences with skill and poise, with everything kept coherent and therefore more thrilling.
Ostensibly let down by duck-billed lead Rhona Mitra's lifeless performance, the central story is still interesting, combining a tale of revolt from oppression with a Shakespearean subplot of doomed lovers.
I no, I do not believe I actually made that comparison.
