Review of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009) by Peter A — 27 Apr 2013

It's probably not worth seeing unless you're already a fan of the film series. This is the prequel movie that fills in storylines established in the first two films. Bill Nighy pretty much represents the movie's star power, so don't go looking for Oscar-worthy performances.

Nighy is Nighy and that's worth something. The violent action and fights aren't as cool as they were in Underworld I, so that may be a letdown for diehard fans. This Underworld, like the other 2, is shot in that blue-black-gray tint that permeates the franchise.

Sure it gives everything a dark, broody feel, but it also leaves one feeling as if they've suddenly gone color blind.
