Review of Underworld: Evolution (2006) by Troy F — 15 Aug 2011
I expected worse considering the negative reception the film has gotten, but Underworld: Evolution really isn't that bad. It has some fairly entertaining action, though not as fun or spectacular as the first film.
The film is a sequel and follows exactly after the first film, but here's one of the problems. Whereas most sequels refer to a fair amount but not too many details of the first film, Underworld: Evolution is too strictly linked with the first film.
You are literally expected to pop in the first Underworld and watch this immediately after. Otherwise, it can be a challenge to follow the film, but I managed to get caught up. Maybe it would have been less misleading if the film title had "Part 2" somewhere in it, "Evolution" doesn't tell us very much.
And for those who said the film makes no sense, the story does make sense but it can be a little too cluttered at times enough to be a little confusing. There shouldn't often be any confusion though, just don't dare watch this film and not the first film and you'll be fine! Anyways, it could have been better but I wasn't expecting much anyways, so it made off as a passably fun vampire horror action flick.
