Review of Underworld: Evolution (2006) by Dylan D — 29 Jul 2013
This movie picks up right where the first one ended in a way that makes me think they were meant to be a two-part deal all along.
Contrary to its predecessor, Underworld: Evolution is very heavy on story and characters. Many people see this as a bad thing. If you look at online reviews this is the most criticism this movie has gotten. Reviewers who blasted the first movie about "style over substance" now moan about the film being "overburdened by story". But the funny thing is that they always end with how they lust over Kate Beckinsale in a tight leather suit. Yeah, I'm sure you're not following the story if all you do is oogle the female vampires. Duh!
Anyway, this movie is more of the same. It's consistent in style and execution and all in all it delivers the goods. If you ask me, the story was done with this one.
Pros: Developing story and characters, consistent in style & execution.
Cons: more of the same.
Verdict: OK+.
