Review of Underworld: Awakening (2012) by Kevin R — 30 Aug 2013
I ended up watching her burn.
The human race has discovered that the vampire and lycan clans exist and are working to eradicate them. They make tremendous headway on the lycans, to the point where the humans and vampires believe the lycans are extinct. A secret scientific organization has captured some lycans and started mutating them into super species. Selene takes responsibility for driving down the mutant lycans while protecting two races, the humans and her own.
"Your son knew it was worth dying for.".
Mans Marlind, director of Storm, 6 Souls, Shed no Tears, and the upcoming Collected Swedish Cults, delivers Underworld: Awakening. The storyline for this picture is very average and does not contain the originality and the intrigue of the original film. The characters are also not presented as well but the action scenes remain first rate. The cast delivers mediocre performances and includes Kate Beckinsale, Stephen Rea, Michael Ealy, and Theo James.
"You knew the lycans weren't extinct?".
I watched this with the misses the other day and found it moderately entertaining. It didn't take long for this series to drop off, but it quickly has. Unfortunately, it looks like they are going to make a sequel to this film. This series has become very mediocre and disappointing right in line with the Resident Evil ongoing films. If you're a fan of the series, I guess you should watch this, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see this.
"It's worse if you try to fight it. Trust me.".
Grade: C-.
