Review of Underworld (1985) by David G — 29 Sep 2010
This was much more decent than I expected. Instead of other weird new incarnations of the genre, this actually is able to retain a horror feel with the action. It is isn't afraid to be bloody or brutal, which is really part of the fun of it all.
I like how it sort of transplants these creatures into what almost seems like a very dark gang war film. Plus, they actually stayed with actual werewolf/wolfmen instead of giant wolves, which is what I always thought was so insane about werewolves.
It also uses that sort of Romeo and Juliet structure that is clearly used in several other films like Twilight. Kate Beckinsale, Michael Sheen, and the awesomely sinister Bill Nighy are really what make this so entertaining.
Scott Speedman isn't bad either, although most of the time he just gets flung around by other characters.
