Review of Underworld (1937) by Dan C — 17 Feb 2013
Here's another example, like Boondock Saints, of a movie reviled by critics but adored by its fans: 31% of critics like this, while 82% of viewers loved it. Personally, it's not my thing. Vampires? Not a bad idea, but I don't like how they're usually represented.
I can't be too specific here. It just wasn't my thing. There are a few convincing man to werewolf transitions in here, and of course, lots of flaring machine guns. It's basically an action movie with horror elements painted over and a difficult-to-understand cosmology about vampires and werewolves going back centuries.
Probably why there are so many sequels, that is, to explicate that cosmology. And I'm sure it made plenty of money in theaters.
