Review of Underworld (1927) by Jessica H — 10 Oct 2011
For a 21th century vampire film, this is pretty damn decent. It treats vampires as vampires, werewolves as... Lycans and has a suitable mood to fit the general theme. Plus the action is pretty good, Kate Beckinsale looks amazing in leather and I found myself entertained while watching it.
On the other hand, there are some really dumb and obnoxious characters - Kraven (Shane Brolly) is the biggest offender - and this film just doesn't offer you anything new. It's a decent vampire-werewolf movie, but that's it.
Nothing more. Nada. Zero. If those are your thing, then you probably should check this one out. If not, well, it's an okayish action film with an urban fantasy spin. Might want to see it.
