Review of Undertow (2004) by Andres B — 23 Mar 2011
Two brothers, Jamie Bell and Devon Alan of Billy Elliot, head into the Deep South after their ex-con uncle (Josh Lucas) murders their father (Dermot Mulroney) over gold coins. This third feature from talented director and co-writer David Gordon Green (George Washington, All The Real Girls, Snow Angels) is a weird mix of Huck Finn and Night of The Hunter, and it doesn't work as well as you'd want it to.
Green trips up on the American Gothicism.
