Review of Undertaking Betty (2002) by Gareth B — 02 Nov 2006
I have chosen to add plots with a view because it was set in my native Wales and shot in and around the valley where I grew up. Although it does play to every Welsh cliche in the book, it still can not taint the fact that Alfred Molina and Brenda Blethyn are perfect as childhood friends/lovers Boris and Betty and that Christopher Walken is typically kooky as the American undertaker turned showman.
The really prize for this film goes to Naomi Watts, who plays up the premise of her slutty valley's girl-cum-femme fatale in a way I never thought possible from some one who hadn't grown up there (her accent is better than perfect!).
If you have any interest in Welsh culture or my nation's recent heritage, then I most certainly urge you to see this.
