Review of Underdog (2007) by Becky S — 22 May 2010
Good, fun movie for kids and family. Standard package, nothing spectecular. Underdog (Jason Lee) works in the police force but he always screws up especially his sense of smell isn't good for a dog.
Then he was nab by a baddie to a lab. Peter Dinklage is an evil scientist doing experiments on dogs. Patrick Warburton is the kind of dim wit henchman. Underdog make a ruckus in the lab and a pile of serum douse onto him and he gain super powers and runs away.
The lab was destroy. James Belushi is an ex cop now security guard and he pick up Underdog and bring home for his son Alex Neuberger. He doesn't want the dog initially. While alone at home, Underdog make a mess in the house and he can communicate with Alex.
They go to the park and bump into Taylor Momsen and her pretty dog Polly (Amy Adams) She doesn't like the doggie. It doesn't wanna be a super hero dog but is convince by Alex to do so. He make a super hero costume and name Underdog.
Meanwhile Peter is setting up a new lab for his evil experiments. Underdog is making a lot of waves. Underdog even use the power to date Polly. Patrick pretend to be an old lady in danger and Underdog save him and he got his collar.
The baddies go to his house and kidnap James. Underdog surrender himself in exchange for his family's life. Peter took his DNA and change dog back to normal and feed the pills to his 3 german shephards.
Off they go to negotiate with the mayor. Patrick strap a bomb up on top. Dog went in and eat the pill to regain his powers. Taylor was caught by Patrick and tie on the roof top. Underdog convince the 3 german shephards why should they listen to his command and they disobey the human.
He quickly go out and change into his costume and save Taylor and Polly and bury the bomb deep into earth. He was blown up to space and crash landed. But Underdog survive off course. James was re-instate by the mayor and he went in to nab Patrick, emerge out as the hero cop.
The dog and owner continue to keep their status a secret.
