Review of Underdog (2007) by Lenar C — 16 Apr 2008
I know it's a children's movie, so there isn't much room for subtlety, but they REALLY hit you over the head with the thematic presentation of Underdog as a failed Christ figure. The subtextual examination of the age-old nature vs. nurture debate, as well as a balanced dissertation on the current stem cell debate as well as contemporary office mores, however, is direct, but handled with a lighter touch.
More importantly, however, the narration by Jason Lee makes it so that if you close your eyes, you think you're watching the bat-shit craziest episode of "My Name is Earl" since the scratch-n-sniff claymation thing... and that gets you three stars.
